Building valuable life skills with OTFC
Groups give children and young people opportunities to build important social, communication and everyday life skills in a supportive, engaging environment. Through shared activities based on their interests, such as dance, basketball and cooking, participants can practise working with others, expressing their ideas, following routines, making choices, solving problems and developing confidence. Each activity is purposeful and designed to support individual occupational therapy goals, helping every young person strengthen practical skills while connecting with peers who may share similar interests and experiences.
Our groups have been running for over 10 years, and each Group is led by an experienced OTFC Occupational Therapist. The Groups are carefully coordinated to support participants’ individual needs, personal goals and positive outcomes. Activities and levels of support can be adapted so that each child or young person can participate meaningfully, build confidence and gain practical skills from their occupational therapy group experience.
To make our occupational therapy Groups even more personalised, we have also offered co-design opportunities that mean clients help shape Group formats and activities, increasing the individualisation and relevance of each Group.
Our OTFC Groups are offered to existing clients through an expression-of-interest process. This allows our team to consider each young person’s goals, interests and support needs, helping us create a suitable group setting where participants can feel included, engage with others and gain the greatest possible benefit from their experience.
